Sometimes, it’s kind of comforting, to just hold your breath for as long as you can
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
Sometimes, it’s kind of comforting, to just hold your breath for as long as you can
As you feel that tightness form in your chest
Your heart refuses to rest
As your mind races, panicking
As you have to make a concerted effort not to open your mouth
Forcing it shut
Refusing that air
Determined not to give in
Fighting your body, make it do what you say
Trying to assert control over your basic needs
Trying to show you can control this
Feeling the light fade as darkness surrounds you
Feeling it shake and shudder as it falls away
GASP!!!!
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breathe in
Breathe out
Breath in
Breath out
Breath in
Breathe out
There’s something comforting as you gasp for air, be it conscious or not
That breath always comes
You can’t stop it
And that’s comforting to know
No matter the hurt
No matter the pain
No matter how badly you might want to world to fall to darkness and take you with it
No matter how much you want to escape
Your body will always gasp
You’ll always fight for that one last moment of life
You’re a fighter, you always were
Not even the strongest desire to die can override that one last gasp for air
Searching and hoping to find another mouthful, another lungful of life
We all want to fight, to live, to keep pushing onward
We all want to feel, to find, to try one more time
It’s an impulse we can’t consciously overrule no matter how hard we try
And that’s kind of comforting
